OUR PHILOSOPHY

We understand education as a varied and complete set of teachings, all unambiguously rooted in the intention to prepare youngsters to act justly in the world – as the planet suffers from the unrelenting issues we see and read about every day. We believe in music as a vehicle of social interaction and a communal activity that instils empathy, physical self-awareness, and personal improvement. Finally, we maintain that musical instruction should incorporate rational analysis, acute perception, and healthy self-critique.
Our syllabus contains a diverse set of classes that begin with personal instrument instruction, and move on to music history, musical analysis, ear training, and choir practice. The novel pedagogical additions of mathematics, logical analysis, textual analysis, and humanities will provide students with the necessary tools to become inquisitive citizens of the world.
Scientific studies have revealed a person’s neural activity when they perform or listen to music: interaction between both brain hemispheres, as music involves both emotional and rational functions. Music reduces stress, pain, and symptoms of depression, thus improving cognitive and motor skills. At its core, music is architectural and lends itself to mathematical analysis, given that the brain must perform multiple tasks when making sense of melodies and rhythms.
An orchestra’s performance mechanisms may be seen as a fractal of society’s processes of production: a collaborative and perpetually-changing set of activities of and among its members, an objective need for applied and practiced empathy to relate the individual’s production with the collective output, and a hierarchical order that demands constant assessment and nurture throughout the performance or process.
MISSION
Our mission is to provide musical instruction to a segment of the young population of the Galápagos, coupling this education with planet awareness. The MFTP Learning Center offers a diversified program of classes involving music making, readings in the humanities, introductory courses on science, and instruction on social and environmental awareness. With this multifaceted syllabus, we strive for excellence in musical performance, a well-rounded education, and the demonstrable influence of our work on the social realities of our students.
VISION
We intend to be the guides of a new generation of tomorrow’s world citizens: we envision the birth of better leaders and caretakers of our planet by transforming their young lives through profound awareness and resounding responsibility. We aspire to reach positive outcomes with our Learning Center in the Galápagos, so that it may then be applied to other regions in the world.
