Educating the Generation of Musicians to Protect the Planet

Music for the Planet Foundation is creating a new kind of learning center in the Galápagos, where music, mathematics, ecological science, and the humanities come together to prepare young people to understand, protect, and shape the world they will inherit. Designed as a model that can be documented, refined, and adapted elsewhere, the Galápagos Learning Center aims to inspire new approaches to education far beyond the islands.

OUR GOALS

ALL-ROUND EDUCATION

Music is at the heart of everything we do. Around it, we build an education that connects mathematics, ecological science, and the humanities, helping students grow not only as musicians, but also as thoughtful citizens and future leaders.

MUSIC TRAINING

From learning the basics of music making to excellence in performance. Our curriculum covers individual instrument instruction, ear training, harmony, analysis, chamber music, and choral singing.

PLANET AWARENESS

In the Galápagos, students experience firsthand the beauty and fragility of the natural world, gaining the knowledge and sense of responsibility needed to help protect it.

ABOUT US

Our Philosophy

We understand education as a varied and complete set of teachings, all unambiguously rooted in the intention to prepare youngsters to act justly in the world – as the planet suffers from the unrelenting issues we see and read about every day. We believe in music as a vehicle of social interaction and a communal activity that instils empathy, physical self-awareness, and personal improvement. Finally, we maintain that musical instruction should incorporate rational analysis, acute perception, and healthy self-critique.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The National Geographic and the Inception of an Idea…

Maestro Dante Anzolini

Dante Anzolini is an internationally acclaimed conductor, composer, and educator whose career has spanned some of the world’s leading musical institutions, including the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, the Vienna Symphony, and renowned concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and Vienna’s Musikverein. A former Music Director of the MIT Symphony Orchestra, he has conducted major orchestras across Europe, the Americas, and Africa while dedicating his career to mentoring young musicians, creating educational programs, and expanding access to the arts. His interests extend beyond music to mathematics, literature, history, and science, reflecting a lifelong belief that the most meaningful education connects disciplines rather than separates them. This vision inspired the creation of the original Music for the Planet festival in the Galápagos, which brought together music and environmental awareness. Today, through Music for the Planet Foundation, he is building a new educational model that integrates music, mathematics, ecological science, and the humanities, helping young people develop as artists, critical thinkers, and responsible stewards of the world they will inherit.
