MFTP Music For The Planet

OUR GOALS

MUSIC TRAINING

On the nature of our teaching

Given the current challenges humanity is facing -environmental hardships, ocean pollution, endangered species, unexpected climatic adversities- we designed an educational program that unites musical performance and analysis with planet awareness. As a youth orchestra could be purported as a fractal segment of society, we will offer musical and artistic teaching along scientific and humanistic introductions to strengthen our pupils’ deftness to be good world citizens. Our educational project is a distinctive combination of knowledges, and a unique linkage between performing arts and Earth consciousness.

Our goal is creating new ensembles, formed by youngsters between the ages of seven (7) and 18 (eighteen) albeit we may consider older youngsters if we see and feel we could help them getting them the artistic experience for benefitting their lives. The main objective being a youth orchestra, we will also see if the interest lead some of them to some sort of a musical career. For them we will also build chamber groups, and eventually soloist performances.

The holistic approach will be organized through communal classes, individual instruction, solfège and ear training, harmony classes, acoustic, and structural music analysis. The whole includes techniques to acquire understanding of the physical skills needed, as well as the rational comprehension of music as organized set of harmonic and contrapuntal strategies. A further ensemble experience as singers of a choir will give them precise instruction of how to produce music with the most fundamental music performance: singing.

The faculty will be composed of instructors residing in the Galápagos most of the year. It will be complemented by visiting musicians who will give stay for shorter periods of time, giving them special instruction as to play with them and for them, in the context of masterclasses and conferences about music practices, performing, and getting the best results through conscientious practicing.
