MUSIC TRAINING
On the nature of our teaching method

With the current environmental challenges we are facing – ocean pollution, endangered species, climate adversities – we have designed an educational program that unites musical performance and analysis with planet awareness. As a kind of fractal segment of human society, our youth orchestra will be given musical and artistic instruction as well as a humanistic education, strengthening their deftness to be good, collaborative world citizens. Our educational project is a distinctive combination of disciplines, with a unique link between the performing arts and environmental awareness.
Our goal is to create new ensembles, formed by youths between the ages of seven and eighteen, though we may consider older students as well, if we believe that the Learning Center would be beneficial to their lives.
Given MFTP’s main objective of forming a youth orchestra, we will also nurture the interests of those students who would like to pursue a musical career. For these pupils, we will build chamber groups and organize soloist performances.
Our holistic musical approach will be organized through communal classes, individual instruction, solfège and ear training, harmony classes, instruction on acoustics, and structural music analysis. Our program of study includes instruction on physical preparedness to perform and play an instrument, as well as harmonic and contrapuntal musical analysis. In addition, as choir singers, students will gain further ensemble experience and instruction on how to produce music in the most direct possible manner: singing. The faculty will be made up of instructors residing in the Galápagos Islands for most of the year, complemented by visiting musicians that will give masterclasses and conferences about practice, performance, and music discipline.
